Vulnerability
We would like to encourage you to be willing to share your struggles with your mentor. A young mentee recently shared that at the beginning of the relationship with her mentor she only said what was good. She was hesitant to risk opening up. But, after telling her mentor some of the things she struggled with, her mentor revealed that she too struggled with the same issue. This revelation allowed the mentee to feel more comfortable opening up with other areas of her life.
None of us have arrived or are without struggles and failures. You may just find a friend who knows exactly what you are going through. Take the risk to open up and trust your mentor. Watch what God will do through this relationship.
Mentor Encouragement
As you and your mentor begin spending time together, think of ways to encourage and thank her for the time she is spending with you. Cards, emails, or short texts are little ways of letting her know you are thinking about her and appreciate her being in your life!
I have spent a wonderful year with my mentor and at first we met every week but this started putting a strain on me even though I loved it. We grew to realize we could email and meet once a month or twice a month and we still got a lot talked about. Sometimes we study and sometimes we just need to talk. I am looking forward to another wonderful year!
